8News team shows out for Fairways for Scott Golf Tournament benefitting 2 End the Stigma

Updated: Oct 28

On October 17, 2024, golfers and supporters gathered at Magnolia Green Golf Club not just for a round of golf, but to honor the memory of Scott Zebrowski, who tragically lost his life to fentanyl poisoning in 2017. The 4th Annual Fairways for Scott Golf Tournament was a day dedicated to celebrating Scott’s life and raising awareness about the opioid epidemic and the challenges faced by those battling substance use disorder.

Scott’s story is one of many in a growing crisis that continues to devastate families and communities. Our President Jill Cichowicz, and loved ones have turned their grief into action by organizing this annual event, creating a platform to bring everyone together for a gorgeous day of golfing and to more importantly shine a light on the dangers of opioids, especially fentanyl, and to end the stigma surrounding substance use disorder.

Throughout the day, participants enjoyed more than just golf—they took part in raffles, games, and music by RVA DJ Sandman. However, the true purpose of the event was always at the forefront: to bring awareness and support to those facing these challenges.

In addition to the tournament, a free REVIVE! Training session was open to the public by our partner CARITAS, teaching attendees how to recognize the signs of an overdose and administer Naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The Fairways for Scott Golf Tournament has become more than just a day on the course—it’s a movement, a way to honor Scott’s memory, and an opportunity to bring vital awareness to the opioid epidemic. Through this event, 2 End the Stigma continues to educate, empower, and inspire the community to take action and provide hope for those who are struggling.

We are deeply thankful to everyone who participated and helped us honor Scott while spreading awareness about substance use disorder and the importance of overdose prevention.

You can continue to help us make a positive impact in the community by joining us for the 8th Annual A Night for Scott! Special guests and regional leaders will gather for an exciting 80's-themed ballroom night, bringing us all together to further our mission and create even more meaningful change in the region.
