4th Annual CARITAS and 2ETS Community Day

The summer heat was in full force at this year’s Community Day at Fort Clifton Park in Colonial Heights on June 29, but so was the heart, energy, and determination of the incredible volunteers who make events like ours possible! With fantastic music from the talented RVA DJ Sandman, adorable and fun balloon art by the always-entertaining Mike Klee, and a visit from Kona Ice and Cafe 804 to help beat the heat, the day was packed with fun and connection.
Community Day gives us and other recovery organizations a unique chance to plug into local communities, offer valuable resources and information, and share a little joy along the way. We were especially excited to bring our outreach to Colonial Heights for the first time and are inspired by the potential for new partnerships and impact throughout the Tri-Cities area.
A special thank you to Delegate Mark L. Earley Jr. and Sheyka Lyon, Resident Coordinator at CARITAS, for sharing their powerful messages of hope and the importance of having strong support systems in place for those in recovery. Their words reminded us what’s possible when communities come together to care for one another. We’re also deeply grateful to the women from the Department of Corrections who volunteered throughout the day. Reentry and reintegration are vital, and opportunities like these offer meaningful ways to reconnect with and contribute to the community.
We’re already looking ahead to Community Day 2026—and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
